Peppermint leaves have a green hued lance-shaped leaves while the rounder leaves of spearmint are more of a grayish green hued color. Peppermint is similar in flavor to spearmint, but it contains menthol, which gives it a more subtle flavor and a bit more cooling sensation on the palate.
